At detechgene, we are excited to be part of the ZukunftBIO.NRW funding program of North Rhine-Westphalia. This initiative aims to bring promising biotechnology products and innovations to market readiness.
The currently funded projects—including our initiative at detechgene—benefit from a funding volume of approximately 15 million euros. These resources enable us to advance our research, develop new biotechnological solutions, and transition our innovations into practical applications.
Mobile Testing with High Precision
Our approaches within this funding is DetechTest—a mobile testing method with the precision of a laboratory analysis. This project receives approximately 1.16 million euros in funding through the Infectiology competition and is led by detechgene as the consortium leader.
Together with our project partners—BioEcho Life Sciences GmbH, a leading specialist in nucleic acid extraction and analysis, and the Institute of Virology at the University Hospital Cologne—we are developing a portable detection device for identifying various infectious agents.
The innovation is based on LAMP-based nucleic acid detection, allowing tests to be conducted anywhere in the world without requiring a laboratory or medical expertise. Our testing method consists of two easy-to-use tools that enable autonomous and mobile sample preparation and reaction.
Our goal is to develop the testing platform to market readiness, validate it with renowned pilot customers, and prepare it for scalable mass production. We leverage the expertise of our team and collaborate closely with strong partners from science and industry.
Founded in 2022, detechgene GmbH as a spin-off of the Nephrology Research Laboratory at the University Hospital Cologne, standing for innovation, precision, and progress—values that perfectly align with the mission of ZukunftBIO.NRW.
